Trump Back at White House Just in Time for Halloween 2025, Hands Out Candy to Kids

After a busy trip to Asia — including a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping — President Donald Trump was back at the White House on Thursday evening for a lighter kind of presidential duty: handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.

President Donald Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump, welcomed children at the White House on Thursday evening, distributing candies as part of the annual Halloween celebration.

Families lined up along the White House driveway, bags in hand, ready to collect jumbo Hershey’s bars and Twizzlers from Mr. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

The Trumps kept it simple — no costumes this year, unless you count the president’s trademark red hat.

The White House looked festive, glowing with orange lights and carved pumpkins. As the couple stepped out to greet the kids, Michael Jackson’s classic “Thriller” played in the background, adding to the Halloween vibe.

Those in attendance included children of military families, law enforcement officers, government staff and foster and adoptive families.

Looking over the long line of visitors, Mr. Trump smiled and commented, “It’s a long line — almost as big as the new ballroom.” He was referring to the ongoing construction behind him, where the East Wing is being rebuilt into a massive 90,000-square-foot ballroom !

Halloween traditions at the White House go way back — all the way to 1958, when First Lady Mamie Eisenhower first decorated the residence for the occasion. Since then, many first couples have joined the fun in creative ways: the Clintons once dressed as James and Dolley Madison, Michelle Obama went as a leopard in 2009, and Jill Biden wore butterfly wings and a purple wig in 2022.
